A few weeks ago my parents received a card from a woman who said she'd grown up in their house, and was wondering if she could come by for visit. My parents have been living in the same house in Little Holmby since the 70’s when my mom was a professor at UCLA, and this woman was from the family before the family that sold it to them, so it's been quite a long time since she'd lived there, but they happily agreed, and a date was made. Last weekend, the woman, who is now 88, came over with her son and daughter-in-law, and apparently they all really hit it off. They drank some wine, told lots of stories about their shared history in this house, what used to be where, which view they loved, and they discovered a ton of parallels in their lives. They both even had the same chocolate brown standard poodle. I have so many questions! Do similar kinds of people gravitate to the same house? Do people who've lived in the same house become similar? I have sold houses between people with striking similarities. Am I slowly becoming like Ruth, the old lady whose former house I live in? Either way, these people, who were complete strangers to each other last week, now feel deeply and intimately connected because of the shared experience of having lived for decades in the same house, and in a city of 3.8M people, that feels pretty special. They plan to meet again.
Speaking or passing the torch, we are very proud of our recent sale of 514 N Canon Dr. between a lovely family who had built the home in the 60's and another family who'd lost their home in the Palisades fire.
As you may know, my little company — Parasol Realty is actually backed by a not so little company called Side Real Estate, which gives us the technology, support and reach of the big box brands, while allowing us to retain our identity as a local and personal Beverly Hills boutique brokerage. We are so proud of our Side community for having just been named the number one brokerage by volume in all of California with the highest average agent production in the state, and we are very grateful for their partnership with us.
Remember to pay your property taxes!
Happy Spring, and Happy Passover to those who celebrate.
